ureter/bladder cancer

Posted in Group:

on jan 9th i was taken to hospital with cramps, 2 days later i was told i had cancer.
They found a tumor in my ureter, they were able to remove everything and i am now cancer free. However, I now have fears of this coming back. I have read online that it is 50-80% that it will come back. I was wondering am i going to go through this everyday wondering every time i feel pain is the cancer back? What or where are there groups to go to? Are there any certain websites that can help?

Sorry to read about your bad news.

Whilst you are right to worry about recurrence, there is much you can do to reduce that risk. Whilst your risk, now you've had cancer, is higher than those who haven't been so diagnosed, in practice nearly everyone is prone to cancer - but their immune system normally mops it up; when it doesn't, the cancer cells grow until they are life threatening.

You can also monitor your cancerousness, by using cancer markers (I use NMP-22 for my bladder cancer; I believe this would also be appropriate for ureter cancers).

There are many cancer support groups (Google will tell you of them; then choose one or more that you find best for you). These will give both psychological support and excellent info from those with similar experience.

You may wish to look at my blog (http://bladdercancerfight.blogspot.com/), particularly the page http://bladdercancerfight.blogspot.com/2011/06/extending-survival-time-in-cancer.html

Best wishes
